What To Do After You Have Registered
The website functions on two main inputs from its users:
- Add or find a property record and/or a person record
- Add a property record to a person record (or vice versa)
(This is known as "linking".)
One of the most important things to remember is that although the website is called "who lived there" the properties and their links to people go beyond just "living there". You can add people to properties where they stayed for a while or took a holiday. You can add schools where they attended, churches where they were married, or cemeteries where they were buried. You can even show places where their ashes may have been scattered. You can build a complete and fascinating picture of a person's life from birth to death - where they lived, where they stayed, where they visited - or even where they performed (if they were an actor for example).
A Suggested First Exercise
An easy way to get to know wholivedthere.com is to add all the properties you have lived in since you were born and then link your name to each property. You can also add person records for each of your family members and link them to properties also.
A Suggested Second Exercise
Add the properties where your parents or grandparents, or even distant ancestors, lived (or where they were born, married, died or buried). Then link your parents or ancestors to each property that you have created.
By the time you have done this you will have learned your way around the website and will have gained an insight into the value of this growing database as people from around the world add similar information.
